Restormal Castle

Restormel Castle is a great castle originally built by the Normans around 1100. As with most castles, Restormal was well fortified and had a 17 foot moat with extremely steep slopes to keep the inhabitants protected. The castle did not see but one battle in 1644. It is also known that in 1354, the Black Prince had held court in Restormal Castle.

Today, the castle stands proudly in acres of land, which held hundreds of deer and is in very good condition, considering it’s over 900 years old. Surrounded by fields of green and flowers, this is wonderful castle resting on an old Norman mound.
