Barbara Hepworth Museum in Cornwall

A fantastic place to visit whilst on holiday in Cornwall is the Barbara Hepworth Museum. Barbara moved to Cornwall with her husband and very young family back in 1939. She discovered Trewyn Studios and thought it was a delightful place nestled superbly around St Ives; she found the tranquil surroundings of the studios adorned by a perfect garden and yard for her to work in, with more than adequate space to create her now famous bronze sculptures, paintings and drawings. Barbara lived in Cornwall and worked at Trewyn studios from 1949 to 1975, when she died.  She wished for Trewyn Studios to become a museum and it is now open to the public, where many of her tools, furnishings and works of art are still available for all to see.

St Ives is a beautiful coastal town where one can stay in the many Cornish cottages available, close to the coastal resorts. You can find many of Cornwall’s best cottages on the Cornwall Sunshine website, where many Cornwall cottages are a short distance from such wonderful places to visit.

Barbara Hepworth loved it here, in Cornwall, and was no doubt inspired by her surroundings thus becoming one of Britain’s most revered modern artists. We can now enjoy the splendour of her works which are as preserved as the Cornish countryside.
