Chun Castle

Chun Castle, on the summit of Chun Downs, is one of Cornwall’s most natural hillforts. This is a stunning historical site with great coastal views. It is believed that settlements existed as far back as the Iron Age up to and including 500 AD. Like similar hillforts, evidence of concentric rings provides excavation points for further analysis and evidence gathering.

Chun Castle still possesses the remains of external stone walls and deep ditches, and within, there is evidence of housing by way of smaller circular stone walls. This castle seems to have been the centre of the West Penwith area, covering all the surrounding territories.

The mystery of Chun Castle was evident on my visit, especially since we arrived early in the morning, after sunset. There was a sense of thriving activity, in years gone by, and the evidential rocks ‘sprayed’ across the grounds provide an insight to the simplification of life during these times.

Chun Castle is a gorgeous a most prominent hillfort where one can stay close by, in the many Cornish cottages available. Many of Cornwall’s finest cottages, some of which cottages are not too far from such an historical site.

Cornwall’s cottage vendors are extremely hospitable to visitors, wishing to explore further Cornish history, structures, monuments and historical venues; most visitors arrive to find many of Cornwall’s most interesting locations. There is much cottage accommodation available, throughout the whole of Cornwall; making Cornwall a superb place to begin a discovery of the many ancient locations and other points of fascination. I recommend that you choose a delightful cottage, which should add to the experience of this stunning corner of Britain.

Organise a visit to Cornwall and discover historical sites, villages, holiday cottage, or stunning countryside. Cornwall is a relevant county with, sandy beaches, countryside, culture and traditional values. You should, no doubt, take pleasure in much of what is close by, throughout Cornwall, in the comfort of a traditional ancient feeling cottage; review the Cornwall Sunshine website to find a perfect cottage for you. A main attraction of Cornwall, is that it is home to places awash with history, mythology and tradition, not to mention the quaint small trading towns and villages. You should realise the historical relevance of a cottage in Cornwall, built out of local stone, many converted from old disused barns. These are an important part of Cornwall’s history and a visual reminder of how stunning it is to be in Cornwall.

Chun Castle is made up prominent stone rings and ditches, plus evidence of housing rings within the inner circle. There is evidence of life at the castle from excavated pottery carried out around 1930.

If you take your family to Cornwall, make sure they get to see Chun Castle.
