Chysauster Ancient Village

Over 2000 years ago, there were habitants of Chysauster Ancient Village, which is situated not too far from Castle An Dinas. Chysauster is part of a settlement that is not too dissimilar to the structure of many of Cornwall’s villages today. It is known as a courtyard village, surrounded by stone houses with living quarters and an associated courtyard. Chysauster also has evidence of a ‘fogue’ which is essentially an underground passageway or cave. The fogue is not very well preserved, but nonetheless, there is clear evidence suggesting that one existed.

It is believed that occupants lived in this Iron Age village right through to Roman times, and the location has fantastically well preserved courtyard houses. There are up to 10 houses, which had basic living and storage areas within the centre of the village.

Chysauster is a beautiful a most recognised ancient village where one can stay close by, in the many holiday cottages available. Many of Cornwall’s finest cottages, some of which Cornwall cottages are close by to such a prominent site.

Cornish cottage owners are very hospitable to visitors, wishing to explore much of Cornwall’s history, structures, monuments and historical sites; many tourists’ find a dearth of Cornwall’s most fascinating historical locations. There is plenty of cottage accommodation available, throughout the whole of Cornwall; making Cornwall a fantatic place to begin a journey of discovery of the many ancient locations and other points of interest. I would recommend that you select a delightful cottage, which will enhance the whole family experience of this beautiful corner of country.

A simple attraction of Cornwall, is that it is home to many locations that are immersed in history, mythology and tradition, not to mention the charming small farms, towns and villages. You should, during your stay, realise the historical importance of a cottage in Cornwall, built out of local stone, many converted from old disused barns. These are a relevant part of Cornwall’s history and a visual guide of how striking it is to be in Cornwall.

Although Chysauster has been excavated frequently, it is clear that preserving the integrity of the village may not have been a key focus, as there are parts of the village that have not been put back into their original locations. This is unfortunate, however, the well preserved status of Chysauster, makes a visit well worth the effort.

If you take your family to Cornwall, make sure they get to see Chysauster Ancient Village.
